Une musique enracinée dans la tradition Bèlèe et ouverte aux souffles du monde
Le groupe
est allé partager ses « utopies » en Guadeloupe,
à Trinidad, en Floride, à Paris (Cabaret Sauvage,
New Morning), au Dakar Jazz Festival, à Kyoto
(Japon). En 2015 Il reçoit un prix SACEM. Le batteur, concourt à l’harmonie de cet ensemble rythmique. Le style inventif du pianiste, le groove syncopé de la basse et les accents mi blues mi rock de la guitare ajoutent à l’émotion ! Et puis ces femmes, aux voix puissantes et douces à la fois.
Bélya, c’est également la danse ! En duo, en solo ; savant dosage entre ces pas séculaires (nika, grajé) et la fougue moderne des chorégraphies des quartiers de Fortde-France. !
Enracinés certes ; et ouverts à tous les souffles du monde ; ces musiciens, nourris de zouk de gospel de jazz et de musique de carnaval, chantent l’histoire d’un peuple ; ses espoirs, ses amours, ses soubresauts, et surtout ses utopies toujours fondatrices !
Our music
Bélya draws its primary inspiration from the rich Bèlè tradition of Martinique (a cultural matrix
whose songs, dances and rhythms originated in Africa).
The band went to share its “utopias” in Guadeloupe,
in Trinidad, Florida, in Paris (Cabaret Sauvage, New Morning), at the Dakar Jazz Festival, in Kyoto
(Japan). In 2015 the band was awarded a SACEM prize. There was
such a chemistry between these soft and powerful voices of women, the traditional drums, the
subtlety of the drummer, the groove of the pianist and the syncopated playing of the bassist.
Bélya is also dance! As a duo or solo; it's a clever mix between these centuries-old dance steps (nika, grajé) and the modern enthusiasm of the choreographies of the Fort-de-France neighborhoods.
Certainly, rooted and open to “all the breaths of the world”; these musicians, nourished by gospel
music, zouk, jazz and carnival music, sing the story of a people; its hopes, its loves, its convulsions,
and above all its ever-founding utopias!
Our Culture
The "root" instruments are there:
The astonishing and unique "Tanboubèlè", a drum which is played horizontally whose Energy irrigates the body and soul of the tanbouyé (drum player); the Tanboupak: (small high-pitched drum played with a stick); The doumpak, the latter consisting of the bass drum marking the rhythm in the "Bandlari" carnival groups has been adapted for the stage; The Bwapitak: (one-meter wooden instrument that is played with two sticks).

L’étonnant et unique « Tanboubèlè », qui se joue couché dont l’Energie irrigue en remontant ; le corps et l’âme du tanbouyé (joueur de tambour) ; le Tanboupak : (petit tambour aigu joué avec une baguette) ; Le doumpak, ce dernier constitué du tambour basse marquant le rythme dans les « Bandlari » groupes de carnaval a été adapté pour la scène ; Le Bwapitak : (instrument en bois d’un mètre qui se joue avec deux baguettes).
